Sullivan Counseling Services offers anxiety counseling for kids, teens, and adults.
Hi, I’m Ashley!
And I know anxiety.
Not just the racing thoughts or overthinking — but the kind of anxiety that develops when you’ve spent years being highly aware, deeply feeling, exceptionally capable, and quietly carrying too much. The kind of anxiety that can feel both like a superpower and a curse.
Anxiety is often a completely valid response to trauma, unpredictability, pressure, or simply existing in a world that has not always felt safe or built with you in mind. A lot of anxious patterns begin as adaptations — ways of navigating, surviving, protecting, or staying prepared. But sometimes those strategies outlive their usefulness. Hypervigilance, over-functioning, people-pleasing, perfectionism, and constant scanning can slowly stop feeling protective and start feeling exhausting.
Therapy with me is not about changing who you are. In fact, many anxious people are also incredibly perceptive, intuitive, and emotionally attuned. They notice things quickly, feel things deeply, and often become the “canaries in the coal mine” of their families, relationships, and environments. Your sensitivity is not weakness. In the right context, it can be wisdom.
Our work together is about helping you understand your nervous system, loosen the grip of survival mode, and build a different relationship with anxiety altogether — one rooted in curiosity, compassion, and trust.
Transformation is not about becoming someone else. It’s about finally feeling safe enough to become more fully yourself.
Support for Anxiety Across the Lifespan
-
Anxiety in kids rarely looks just one way. Sometimes it looks like tears, tantrums, or refusal. Other times it looks like people-pleasing, overthinking, or the need for things to feel “just right.” Through play, connection, and developmentally appropriate support, therapy helps kids better understand themselves, express what’s happening inside, and feel more steady in the world around them.

Teens today are navigating enormous amounts of pressure while also trying to figure out who they are. Therapy gives them a space to slow down, untangle anxiety and self-doubt, build emotional insight, and develop a stronger relationship with themselves underneath the pressure, comparison, and expectations.

From the outside, you may look like you have it all together. Internally, you may feel exhausted, overwhelmed, burned out, disconnected, or like you’re constantly stuck in survival mode. Therapy is a place to step out of constant performance and problem-solving and reconnect with yourself in a way that feels steadier, quieter, and more sustainable.

Athletics and anxiety often go hand-in-hand!
Your journey as an athlete shapes your identity, relationships, confidence, self-worth, and more. Therapy for athletes is not just about performance — it’s about understanding the meaning you’ve made out of pressure, competition, success, failure, and the role your sport has come to play in your life. Because it’s never only about the game.
